Since skinny jeans are making their way back, it only seems right that metallics do as well. As much as we’re seeing the resurgence of boho chic, the return of studs and metallics signals a nod to the indie sleaze era of 2010. This year is paving the way for metallic sneakers, loafers and ballet flats, all of which feel rather fresh after a long spell of minimalism.
Last summer, we saw mesh footwear take off with brands like Alaïa and their mesh ballet flats. This year, mesh is still here to stay, but in a slightly different way. Instead of the open net-like mesh, designers are turning to more of the sheer variety. For example, Khaite’s Alessio loafers are made entirely from black sheer mesh, as are Le Monde Beryl’s Mary Janes.
During the fall, suede made a huge comeback, especially in bags and jackets, signalling the return of boho chic. Now that 2025 is here and spring/summer is on the horizon, the suede trend is only going to become more popular — think loafers, flats, sneakers, you name it.
The retro sneaker is here to stay, serving as an antidote to the chunkier styles of recent years. In the past, sneakers were designed to be lightweight, featuring a narrow shape, low profile and thin sole. Many designers are reviving styles from the 60s and 70s and giving them a modern twist, such as Gola’s Race sneaker, which was originally released in 1968.
Last year, we saw animal print make a slight comeback (particularly leopard print), but 2025 is set to see the trend really take off. After a long run of minimalist fashion, maximalist prints like snakeskin, leopard print and zebra print always make a return. Think bags, shoes, jackets, trousers, this trend is set to be big!
